THE DIGITAL DOCTORS' LOUNGE

This blog arose from my experiences and my frustrations. As a retired surgeon, I struggled to find my voice and my place in this next chapter of my life. I stumbled into a new challenge of patient advocacy and found that included physician advocacy. I had always been a champion, but it was usually on an individual basis, for a particular patient or treatment, then for a service platform (transplant, trauma, breast cancer) and now its for all patients who struggle to achieve quality, timely and affordable medical care by highly trained expert physicians and the obstacle that current era physicians encounter.   I was accustomed, like most physicians, to speaking my mind and being heard for what I had to say; valued for the experience I brought to the table.  The Doctors' Lounge was always a great place to express ideas, vent frustrations and test conclusions.  I felt the need to find a Doctors' Lounge I could visit and discuss ideas with like minded physicians. 

As a visitor here, you are part of a fantastic community.  There are so many issues that arise from today's monster of  Corporatized Medicine that we call HealthCare. There are so many ethical and personal dilemmas that warrant a discussion. There is such a need for connectivity and a sense of belonging and in an ever digitalized environment that it only made sense to offer up a Digital Doctors' Lounge to discuss the weighty (or the simple) thoughts that used to be easily shared in the hub of the hospital environement.

Thank you so much for being part of this community. There are plenty of ways that you can become more involved. Please read and comment; submit thoughts for blogs or send me your writings to publish; share on FB, twitter or your other favorite social media sites. I hope this spot becomes a free flow of ideas that are congenially discussed, where discourse does not lead to disent and we can all agree to disagree without leaving the space, permanently.  Physicians deserve a place to ponder, to seek those who share our experience or lend insight through their differing experiences.  Let the doors of the Digital Doctors' Lounge open an avenue of comeraderie and thought that was previoulsy left to an era of yesterday. Where medical minds converge.
